Joy’s Kitchen Update: Spring is Sprouting Something Special
The response to our recent announcement has been incredible. It’s clear the community behind Joy is strong, wide-reaching, and deeply committed. We’re exploring our next steps and are confident that the perfect space—or spaces—will reveal themselves in service of the 5,000+ people we support each month.
We’re seeing new partnerships begin to grow, volunteers step into leadership, and systems improve—all while we continue full operations. That’s no small feat, and it’s heartwarming to share this final season in our current location with all of you.
We mentioned a special Joy’s Club volunteer shopper bag—they’re on their way. We’ll update you as soon as they arrive.
Upcoming events where you can connect with us:
Earth Day Celebration in Belmar – April 26
Boulder Ecstatic Dance – April 28
Come by, share your story, and help us plant a little more Joy in the world.
Please note: we will not be doing our mobile kitchen at festivals this year due to the upcoming move. That means we’re open to local bookings. If you’d like to bring the Joy Bell Tent After Dinner Lounge or Booth of Sustainability to your event, reach out to: events@joyskitchen.org
If you haven’t yet, please consider sharing our fundraising link with five people you know:
https://gofund.me/8e897da0
Recurring donations help us demonstrate strong community backing as we move forward with securing a new lease.
Together we do great things. Together we thrive.

Dear Joy Bringer, I am texting all of you so you can share this!
Our vision for the future is clear:As we prepare to step into the unknown with a commitment to continue to serve we are searing for dedicated space that will allow us to expand our reach and offer more than just food. We’ve found a location that will allow us to provide shelter from the elements, a clothing bank, possibly a shower for our homeless neighbor and a central hub for community-driven resources and events. This is a place where we can build lasting relationships and create the sustainable impact that is at the heart of our mission.
We have to be fully out of our current space by Sept 1 that we are feeding 5000 families a month from.
Joy’s work is about restoring dignity and empowering a community to thrive all the while caring for this sacred earth.
This is the time to act, to make sure that the legacy of Joy’s Kitchen continues, and that we build a future where communities have the resources they need to thrive.
Together, we can make this vision a reality.
We ask you to consider a recurring donation to ensure that Joy’s Kitchen can remain a cornerstone of hope, sustainability, and community impact for years to come.
We hope you enjoy this video and encourage you to share with 3 others right now!! We have met 21% of our funding goal already!
Take a moment and enjoy this video of Joy, Hope and LOVE.

A Day of Joy 2025
Joy’s Kitchen has reached a pivotal moment in its journey. We’ve been informed that we must vacate our current space, a church basement that has served us well but can no longer support the immense growth of our mission. We are now in a state of emergency.…

This week is already a powerful force of love and goodness!
We think we found the perfect place to center Joys! This space will offer so much more than we currently are able to offer at this basement situation we currently exist without support in! This hope is so good and we are excited to share with you all.
This space would house a center of Joy that not only brings good to those in need, offers services to resource one another in truly accessible and foundational ways.
Join with us in the journey to find , secure and bring service to the people by the people!
Here’s a peek of this week so far at Joys- with 2 in and 5 to go of this amazing Earth Day week!
Be the LOVE- Be the JOY!

We are in an urgent, beautiful transition.
After 13 years of serving thousands from a church basement, Joy’s Kitchen is stepping into its next evolution. Starting June 16th, all food rescue operations will relocate to a shared warehouse space in Denver in collaboration with our new partner, Benefits in Action.
This powerful partnership—called Joy in Action—combines the best of both organizations:
BIA's logistics and delivery systems
Joy’s community building, food rescue, and volunteer power
Together, we will:
✅ Expand warehouse-based public distribution days
✅ Maintain delivery outreach services
✅ Host regular volunteer opportunities at both locations
✅ Begin mobile markets throughout the Denver area
Why We Need You Now:
We’ve stretched every dollar to keep operations going—but we’ve now run out of relocation funds.
We must raise $10,000/month to:
Keep our core staff employed
Fuel trucks, maintain fridges, and power warehouse systems
Move and store critical assets
Begin offering public service again ASAP
Your support keeps food from going to waste. Your donation keeps our mission—love in action—alive.
A New Home, A Renewed Mission:
This move represents our independence from systems that no longer serve the people. Our new space is inclusive, expansive, and focused on nourishment, dignity, and care.
We’re no longer surviving—we’re building.
We’re not being pushed out—we’re moving forward.
We’re not just reacting—we’re rewriting what community service looks like.
We invite you to be part of this new model. It’s grassroots. It’s replicable. It’s real.
New Denver Warehouse Address:
2080 W. Barberry Place, Denver , CO
We’ll begin service June 16, with new volunteer hours and special market access for helpers. Watch joyskitchen.org for updates, pop-up markets, and ways to get involved.
🙏 Thank you for showing up for Joy’s Kitchen—and for believing in what comes next.
💛 Please donate and share today.

In our fist month, We have impacted the Lincoln Park Neighborhood in Denver with over 3000 family food boxes without a break of services from the move. We are deeply grateful for our new space and partnership with Benefits in Action that make this possible. The reality that our food relief service almost were halted to the Denver Metro Area from our sudden eviction were very real. 705 of the family food boxes were in partnership with our new partners delivery systems, making the 1st month here a very real example of how collaboration between awareness and agency helps this hungry world.
We are saddened that so many in Southwest Denver are grappling for services without a food relief partner within 4 miles of our old space, and though we can't change that- are so thrilled that our standard operating procedures have proven to be HIGHLY effective to immediately be impactful in any neighbourhood we find ourselves. This is noteworthy and a change to the systems as we know it. We have the code of Joy and can';t wait for whats ahead.

Introducing a partnership that changes EVERYTHING!
We are thrilled to begin our journey to a healthy soil in Denver County through Compost Colorado.
Compost Colorado is a public benefit company that empowers households and businesses on the Front Range to live in better balance with the natural world. We offer a weekly compost pick-up (both as a curbside or drop off membership), helping communities divert their organics out of the landfill and ensuring that any food waste produced can go back into the earth. This means our members save money on their trash service, reduce methane emissions, trapping carbon and creating healthier environments for us all!

Our nonprofit partners that allowed us to house with them ended our collaboration last month. Ending our time there during this week was nothing short of devastating.
We can only speak to what this does for our little org and its people as we move forward to seek a space to operate in.
Joys just doesn’t have the funding that’s needed to up and move .
We were willing to enter a sublease. We were willing to raise money for the space and help carry some burdens. We were willing to help anyway we could.
It’s so important to note here that we fed over 65,000 boxes of food from this space since June 15th.
They delivered over 1700 boxes to the elderly and home bound boxes of our Joys food in the collaborative project that they brought us in for.
We did good things together.
This ending was not one of them.

Important Volunteer Update: We had to move in the blink of an eye and in a blink of an eye we found a place that truely reflects our soirit of JOY!
Joy’s Kitchen Is Rolling Into Roller City
Hi Joy Family,
We want you to know what’s happening right away:
Joy’s Kitchen is partnering with Roller City, and their location will now serve as our homebase.
Roller City — at 1975 S. Harlan St., Lakewood, CO 80227 (Belmar) — has generously opened their lobby, back warehouse, and part of their rink surface so our community can stay supported while we set up operations in this new space!
Their family saw a need and stepped forward in a big way, helping ensure thousands of families continue receiving food and care.
It’s a quirky and perfect match — Joy + wheels + community care.
Denver may now have the first-ever “roller-fed food rescue.” THIS IS EPIC.
We’re rolling into this next chapter with heart.
Where to Meet:
All volunteer shifts will now meet in the Roller City lobby. Please park on the WEST side of building.
What THIS coming week Looks Like:
These next weeks are focused on clearing, cleaning, and preparing the warehouse area behind the rink so we can return to full operations by the second week of December.
Food intake is happening but limited.
You may receive a small amount of groceries, though we can’t guarantee a full shopping experience for volunteers this week.
If you need to cancel, update your Volunteer Profile or email info@joyskitchen.org — no pressure.
Important Things to Know
Please double-check the shift times you originally signed up for. We’ve updated and are updating all start and end times, and for now we’re removing Saturdays from the schedule and replacing them with Wednesday shifts. PLEASE CHECK START TIMES THE NIGHT BEFORE YOU ARE SCHEDULED.
If you were signed up for Saturday, December 6th or any Saturday following, your names have been removed and those slots are now closed. Please sign up for an alternate day.
As the weather warms in the spring, we wil add outdoor distributions in Denver. For winter, we’re looking forward to having weekends off.
We’ll be finalizing the public distribution schedule later this week, which means next week’s volunteer shifts will also change. If you’re already signed up for a future shift, please note that things will continue shifting until we lock in a more structured, permanent rhythm.
We’re most likely moving into a winter schedule with weekends off and distributions on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12–2 PM.
What to Know Before You Arrive:
• Bring rollerblades or skates if you want — you’re welcome to skate after your shift. Let's have FUN.
• Dress for winter. The space is cold and we’re working with space heaters until the heat is fully up and going.
• Wear true work clothing. Work gloves highly recommended.
• There is a large area for kids to play while we work we just need parents to keep chidren in the areas we designate with super vision.
• Avoid black-soled work boots to protect the rink floor.
Why This Matters
This partnership gives Joy’s Kitchen a generous, community-centered homebase and keeps us moving forward without to much interruption. With your help, we aim to be fully set up by the end of the second week of December and continue holiday outreach as planned. We will be launching a campaign starting Monday for construction/ operations to turn this into a more permanent home base. We will send it here for you to share and take part in for this amazing new chapter out of the ashes. Giving Tuesday is here this week and we willbe sending you ways to share to make lasting impact for our program in need!
Thank you for rolling with us — through change, challenge, and joy.
You help make this work possible. Please fill the slots so we can move in and continue our missions as soon as humanly possible!
